Tyler earned his Master’s Degree in Social Work with a concentration in adult mental health and military social work from the University of Southern California. Prior to this, Tyler obtained his Bachelors of Social Work from the University of South Florida. Tyler is a licensed social worker in the State of Ohio (S.1903541).
Before pursuing a career in social work, Tyler served in the United States Marine Corps for 9 years before being Honorably Discharged. Tyler was inspired by his time in the military to continue to serve his community as a mental health therapist.
Tyler has worked in multiple settings as a therapist including outpatient substance use rehabilitation therapy, community mental health working with clients from a diverse background and with diverse mental health issues and concerns, as well as private practice where he has focused on his work as a trauma therapist, working primarily with complex trauma, attachment wounding, and post-traumatic stress disorder.
Tyler’s approach to therapy is centered on his training in EMDR Therapy and Internal Family Systems Therapy, meeting the client where they are at, and empowering clients to take control of their mental health. Tyler believes individuals who are seeking healing should be free to choose the direction and pace of their therapy in order to assist the individual in achieving growth beyond their mental health and trauma. He believes through assisting the client in identifying how their experiences in life have helped to shape what they are currently experiencing and giving them a space to be able to work through those challenges, clients can build a foundation for long-lasting change. Tyler focuses on identifying strengths and using those strengths to improve wherever clients may be struggling. Tyler believes in the importance of building a strong therapeutic relationship built upon openness, honesty, and empathy to assist the client in attaining mental and emotional health. His area of interest is working with clients who have a history of trauma, assisting them in learning more about what they are experiencing as a result of that trauma, and how they can work towards post-traumatic growth. He enjoys working with adults, older teenagers, first responders, veterans, and their families.
